WORLD NEWS

⛴️ Trump Criticizes Allies as Strait of Hormuz Remains Closed
Spain, Italy, and France have restricted U.S. military operations in response to the ongoing Iran war. President Trump indicated he may end the conflict even if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, signaling frustration with limited allied support.
The Strait carries 20% of global oil, which is currently blocked. Gas is over $4 per gallon and oil is $114 per barrel. The disruption threatens U.S. and global economic stability while limiting the administration’s leverage.
The shift: Allies blocked airspace, bases, and ship escorts. Options include risky ground operations, strikes on civilian infrastructure, or walking away with the Strait still closed. Tens of thousands may face poverty across the region, and regional instability continues to mount.
LAW & POLICY

📜 Supreme Court Rules Conversion Therapy as Protected Speech
The Supreme Court ruled 8-1 that Colorado’s ban on conversion therapy for minors violates the First Amendment, saying it “censors speech.” Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson dissented, warning the decision could be catastrophic for states’ ability to regulate medical care involving speech.
The ruling undermines conversion therapy bans in nearly half of U.S. states. Broader implications extend to any licensed professional giving advice or counseling through speech, potentially limiting states’ authority over medical treatments delivered verbally.
The ripple effect: Colorado’s law applied to licensed professionals providing counseling aimed at influencing minors’ sexual orientation or gender identity. The challenge came from evangelical therapist Kaley Chiles. Experts warn the precedent may make speech-based therapies and certain practitioner advice effectively unregulatable.

:📈 Today’s Poll: Therapy Thresholds
The Supreme Court ruled 8-1 that Colorado’s ban on conversion therapy for minors violates the First Amendment. Nearly half of U.S. states with similar bans now face uncertainty, and experts say the ruling could affect any counseling or advice given by licensed professionals.
How should states respond to the Supreme Court ruling allowing conversion therapy as protected speech?
LAW & ORDER

⚖️ Israel Enacts Death Penalty Law Targeting Homicides
Israel passed a law allowing the death penalty by hanging for homicides deemed intended to undermine the state. Conviction requires only a simple majority, and execution must occur within 180 days, bypassing many traditional safeguards.
Critics say the law disproportionately targets Palestinians while largely sparing Jewish extremists. European allies and Israeli justice officials warned it undermines democratic principles and could exacerbate hostage-taking and retaliatory cycles.
The risk: The law applies in military courts with limited due process. Former legal experts and religious leaders say it’s discriminatory and intended for revenge. Israel has used the death penalty only twice in modern history, and no clear pardon paths exist under the new legislation.
Fun Facts
⚾ Sports: The average Major League Baseball batter has roughly 0.4 seconds to see the pitch, decide to swing, and start the motion. Faster than the blink of an eye!
🐾 Animals: Sea otters hold hands while sleeping to avoid drifting apart. Even naps come with bonding time.
🌏Environment: Mangrove forests can store up to four times more carbon per area than many tropical forests. Coastal trees pull heavyweight climate duty.
🤨WTF: There’s a town in Norway called Å, officially just one letter. Minimalist signage, maximal confusion.
