⚖️ Trump Removes Election Commission Members Before Midterms

President Trump has removed the three remaining members of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC), leaving the independent agency without any sitting commissioners. The White House said new members will be nominated and that the president has authority to remove officials not aligned with his election security priorities.
The EAC provides states with election guidance, certifies voting systems, and oversees the national mail voter registration form. Replacements must be confirmed by the Senate, raising questions about whether the commission will be fully operational before the 2026 midterms.
The concern: Former Commissioner Benjamin Hovland warned the agency’s reduced capacity could make it harder to support election officials. Some election law experts also questioned the timing, while the White House maintains the changes are part of its election security agenda.

🐍 Hundreds of Venomous Snakes Escape China Floods

Around 900 snakes, including cobras and king rat snakes, escaped after flooding destroyed a breeding farm near Hengzhou, China. Officials say at least one person has been bitten as emergency crews search for the animals and distribute antivenom.
The snake escape comes amid widespread flooding caused by a tropical storm that has killed dozens of people and stranded communities across southern China. More than 10,000 students and teachers were trapped at one point as floodwaters rose.
The rescue effort: Flooding also affected local animal facilities. Authorities have urged residents not to approach escaped snakes and to report sightings immediately.
WORLD NEWS
🌍 Trump Says Iran Attack Would Trigger Massive Retaliation

President Trump said he has instructed the U.S. military to respond with overwhelming force if Iran were to assassinate him. His comments to the New York Post came after reports that Israel shared intelligence suggesting Iran was considering a renewed assassination plot.
Iran has openly sought retaliation since Trump ordered the 2020 strike that killed Iranian General Qassem Soleimani. U.S. prosecutors have also previously charged individuals accused of participating in Iranian-backed plots targeting Trump.
The backdrop: The remarks come as fighting between Israel and Iran has resumed following the collapse of a ceasefire. Trump said additional U.S.-Iran talks are planned but also declared the ceasefire “over,” raising uncertainty about whether tensions will continue to escalate.
