🌍 Iran War Widens as Egypt Is Struck and Netanyahu Confronts Vance
The Iran war is widening on several fronts. Israeli PM Netanyahu reportedly confronted VP JD Vance over Vance’s public criticism of Israel, while a drone struck a port near Egypt’s Suez Canal, the first hit on Egypt since the war began.
The strike, which set two gas ships ablaze, exposed a vital trade route’s vulnerability as Saudi Arabia reroutes oil there. Vance and allies allege an Israeli-backed operation is smearing him online; Netanyahu denies his government is behind any such campaign. Saudi Arabia also acknowledged joining U.S. strikes on Iran-backed militias.
The fallout: Former ally-turned-critic Alex Jones called for Trump’s impeachment over the war, while U.S. Central Command reported another heavy wave of strikes on Iran.

💼 Musk Launches X Money Banking for Premium Subscribers Amid Red Flags
Elon Musk launched X Money, a banking and payments platform built into X, currently limited to paid Premium subscribers. It lets users deposit, send, and transfer money, pay bills, and get a Visa debit card, using infrastructure from Cross River Bank.
Backers note real perks: FDIC-insured deposits, up to 6% yield for Premium+, and a built-in base of 4.4 million subscribers. But critics flag serious gaps. The service lacks licenses in New York and Massachusetts, and Cross River has faced federal enforcement actions.
The concerns: Senator Elizabeth Warren argues X can’t be trusted with users’ money, citing fraud and moderation failures. Unclear policies on suspended accounts and thin customer support add to the risk.

🏛️ Senate Republicans Put Blanche AG Nomination on Hold Over IRS Deal
Senate Republicans John Cornyn and Thom Tillis put a hold on Todd Blanche’s nomination for attorney general, demanding more answers about the settlement of Trump’s lawsuit against the IRS. Blanche personally signed that deal.
The $10 billion suit ended with the IRS dropping tax probes of Trump and creating a fund for people he said the DOJ wronged. Cornyn and Tillis want the administration’s decision to abandon that fund put in writing, plus limits on Trump’s immunity deal.
The standoff: Cornyn accused the DOJ of stonewalling. Trump floated withdrawing Blanche’s name until Cornyn and Tillis leave office, which Tillis called tone-deaf.

When a little dog jumped into San Francisco Bay and kept paddling out to sea, Menlo Park firefighters spotted it with a drone, launched a boat, and wrapped it in a warm towel before finding its owner. Full rescue mode for one soggy pup! 🚤🐕
After a car flew off a Houston overpass and landed upside down on the freeway below, strangers grabbed sledgehammers and their bare hands to pull three trapped women to safety before firefighters arrived. All three are expected to recover. Houston showed up! 🦸🚗

On July 31, 1790, Samuel Hopkins received the first U.S. patent, for a new process to make potash, a key ingredient in fertilizer and soap. It was personally signed by President George Washington, along with Thomas Jefferson and the attorney general. Only three patents were granted in that entire first year.
