🌐 US and Iran Reach Ceasefire, Nuclear Terms Still Under Negotiation

The US and Iran reached a ceasefire agreement to halt fighting and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, with a 60-day window to negotiate Iran’s nuclear program. Full terms remain undisclosed.
Several major issues remain unresolved, including sanctions relief, uranium stockpiles, enrichment limits, Iran’s missile program, and its support for regional groups.
The backstory: The agreement follows years of tensions over Iran’s nuclear program. Iran curtailed parts of its program under the 2015 nuclear accord but expanded enrichment activities after the US withdrew from the deal. Experts say the remaining issues may be difficult to resolve in upcoming negotiations.

💼SpaceX Shares Surge After Record-Setting Debut

SpaceX completed a $75 billion IPO on Friday at a $1.77 trillion valuation, the largest in history. Shares rose 6% on Monday morning before closing up 20% by the end of the day, pushing the company’s valuation to over $2 trillion.
The price has drawn skepticism. Morningstar valued the company at roughly $780 billion, less than half the IPO valuation, and SpaceX released only about 5% of its shares (versus the typical 10 to 20%). Critics say the limited float inflated the price.
The concerns: SpaceX posted a $4.9 billion loss in 2024 on $18.7 billion in revenue. Most projections rely on speculative AI expansion. The IPO is seen as a benchmark ahead of potential public offerings from Anthropic and OpenAI.

SpaceX completed a $75 billion IPO at a $1.77 trillion valuation, the largest on record, with shares rising 20% in early trading. The rally has drawn both enthusiasm and skepticism. Supporters cite strong investor demand and long-term growth tied to space infrastructure and AI expansion, while critics point to lower third-party valuations, a limited public float, recent losses, and projections seen as highly speculative.

📱 UFC Freedom 250 Marks White House First, Drawing Scrutiny and Arrests

UFC Freedom 250 became the first professional sporting event held on White House grounds, drawing political and legal attention before the event began. Screenshots circulated on social media suggesting Eric Trump had requested insider betting information on fight outcomes; both Eric Trump and UFC representatives denied the claims.
A nonprofit filed a lawsuit seeking to block the event, which was dismissed by the courts. Senator Andy Kim (D-NJ) also raised concerns about potential financial conflicts related to the event.
The fallout: Following the event, a UFC middleweight fighter stated he was removed from the promotion after publicly criticizing Israeli policy. After the event, police reported 63 arrests and incidents of property damage, including vandalized vehicles.
Fun Facts
🏃 Sports: The marathon distance of 26.2 miles was standardized at the 1908 London Olympics so the race could start beneath Windsor Castle and finish in front of the royal box. Basically, long-distance running took course design instructions from the monarchy.
🧑🦰Anatomy: Redheads have a variant of the MC1R gene that can affect how they respond to pain and anesthesia. The human operating system occasionally runs a slightly different configuration.
🥫Inventions: Canned food was invented almost 50 years before the can opener, so early cans were opened with knives, hammers, or whatever tools were around. We mastered preservation before we figured out how to actually get inside it.

TODAY’S QUIZ ANSWER:
The First Woman in Space
On June 16, 1963, Valentina Tereshkova launched aboard Vostok 6 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, becoming the first woman to travel to space. A 26-year-old textile factory worker and parachuting enthusiast from Yaroslavl, Russia, she completed 48 orbits over nearly three days, logging more time in space than all American astronauts combined at that point. No woman would follow her until Sally Ride flew aboard the Space Shuttle 20 years later.
