🌐 Israel Strikes Iran Despite Trump’s Objections as Pentagon Flags Espionage Concerns

Israel struck Iran despite President Trump’s public calls to stand down. U.S. officials were simultaneously engaged in ceasefire negotiations.
The strikes came as the Pentagon classified Israeli intelligence operations targeting American officials at its highest threat level. Reports indicate Israel has been surveilling U.S. diplomats involved in ongoing Iran peace talks.
The tension: Israel’s embassy denied the surveillance allegations. A senior Trump official described the alleged monitoring in sharply critical terms. Together, the two developments have placed unusual strain on the U.S.-Israel relationship.

📜 Pentagon Cuts Military Religious Codes to 31, Drops LDS Designation Before Reversing

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reduced the military’s recognized religious affiliation codes from over 200 to 31. The change removed the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from the official list.
Mormon Republican senators, including Mike Lee, called the removal offensive and pressed the administration to reverse it.
The reversal: The Pentagon restored the LDS designation following pressure from GOP lawmakers. The episode exposed tension between Hegseth’s consolidation efforts and the concerns of religious constituencies within the Republican base.

📺 Trump Backs $1.8B Anti-Weaponization Fund on Meet the Press then Interview Ends Abruptly

NBC’s Kristen Welker sat down with President Trump for an hour on Meet the Press. In the final minutes of the interview, Welker pressed Trump on his proposed $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization fund,” intended for people he describes as victims of government overreach, including some January 6 defendants.
The exchange touched on the status of January 6 defendants, the disputed 2020 election, and Trump’s broader criticisms of the media and past administrations. The anti-weaponization fund has faced bipartisan criticism and a court pause. Trump said he still supports it and would not rule out payments.
The backdrop: This comes as the White House maintains a “media offenders” page targeting outlets and journalists it disputes. Former 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley has separately raised concerns about editorial influence at CBS under new leadership.

🦐 Animals: Mantis shrimp can strike at up to 50 mph, accelerating their club-like appendage faster than a bullet leaving a gun barrel. The force is sufficient to crack aquarium glass, which is why marine biologists keep them in specially reinforced tanks. Do not tap the glass.
🎵 Music: Duke Ellington was commissioned by ABC-TV to write and perform a 10-minute vocal piece as part of the network’s 30 continuous hours of Apollo 11 coverage. Even the Moon needed jazz.
🔬 Science: The human nose can distinguish an estimated 1 trillion different scents, roughly 100 million times more than scientists estimated as recently as the 1990s. Your nose is overqualified.
🤯 WTF: Bubble wrap was invented in 1957 by two engineers whose attempt to make textured wallpaper from sealed shower curtains found no buyers. Best wallpaper failure ever.
