🌐 Trump Announces Naval Blockade as Iran deal breaks down

The first direct U.S.-Iran talks since 1979 ended after 21 hours without an agreement, as President Trump announced a naval blockade of Iranian ports shortly after negotiations collapsed. The ceasefire expires April 21, leaving less than a week for any deal to emerge.
The UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland, and Greece have declined to participate in the blockade. Iran warned that any threat to its ports could put all Persian Gulf shipping routes at risk.
The fallout: The UN warns up to 32 million people could fall into poverty if the conflict escalates further. Ireland’s PM announced €505M in emergency fuel tax cuts amid nationwide protests. Trump also suggested further escalation, saying access to Iran’s water infrastructure remains an option.

🏛️ Hungary Votes Out Prime Minister Orbán After 16 Years

Viktor Orbán was voted out after 16 years in power, as Hungary’s opposition Tisza Party won a supermajority with 138 of 199 seats in a record 80% turnout election. Péter Magyar, a former Fidesz insider, led the campaign that unseated the longtime leader.
JD Vance had recently campaigned for Orbán ahead of the vote. The result marks a major political shift in Hungary’s domestic and EU alignment.
The backdrop: Orbán’s government was previously documented using gerrymandered districts, media control, and judicial influence to maintain power. Analysts also cited Russian-linked interference during his tenure, while Orbán conceded after the results were confirmed.

TODAY’S QUIZ ANSWER:
“Houston, we’ve had a problem.”
The actual transmission was sent first by astronaut Jack Swigert and echoed moments later by Commander Jim Lovell, after Oxygen Tank No. 2 exploded in the Apollo 13 service module on April 13, 1970. The phrase entered popular culture as “Houston, we have a problem”, a slight rewording from the 1995 film. The explosion disabled the spacecraft’s systems; using the lunar module as a lifeboat, the crew circled the Moon and safely returned to Earth, turning what could have been a disaster into one of NASA’s most remarkable survival missions.
